MINING

DESTROYING THE ENVIRONMENT
(E-mail of Appeal to Department of Minerals and Energy)

Dear All,

Herewith attached for your information is the appeal to the Department of Minerals and Energy to withdraw their acceptance of an application by Rowani Trading and Projects to mine coal on our property which most of you commonly refer to as Broodboom ( Portion 10 of Bankfontein 264JS) which is the property north of Bezuidenhoutshoek over the Klein Olifants.

Whilst this farm of 780 hectares is in terms of bio diversity designated as irreplaceable, the most important fact being the existence of the critically endangered Middelburgensis Cycad. The National monument to these magnificent plants, some in excess of 1500 years old is on this site.

There is no chance  of coal on this property yet the likes of Rowani Trading, Legare Mining Services, Jaments Mining and their consultants namely Singo Consulting (Pty) Ltd and  Mielieani Consultants (Pty) Ltd continue to show little regard for the provisions of the laws of our country which are there to protect the environment and create proper and sustainable mining for the betterment of the people of South Africa and the generations to come.  The powers that be at the DMRE are as guilty as the applicants in the poor and misinformed manner in which they discharge their responsibilities to the public in accepting these incomplete, incorrect and disingenuous applications.

I HEREBY IMPLORE ALL WHO CAN AND WISH TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO STAND UP AND BE COUNTED WHERE EVER THEY CAN AND PUT A STOP TO THIS MADNESS.

IT IS THE DUTY AND OBLIGATION OF EVERYONE WHO WANTS A BETTER FUTURE TO DO SO.

Thank you

Sid Sidersky

APPEAL 12795MP

Legare Mining Services, represented by Singo Consulting, are threatening one of Mpumalanga’s most valuable natural habitats by seeking  permits to extract and crush coal on Bezhoek Nature Reserve. The application comes despite one of the worlds largest mining groups, Glencore, having already declared that there are no coal reserves to mine and that the reserve is ecologically irreplaceable and should be preserved with no mining allowed.

As the management team of the reserve, we encourage members of the public to help us create awareness and lodge formal objections against the application in order to preserve the heritage and legacy for generations to come.
